Fruitlands Museum offers an array of art classes and workshops in fine art, crafts, and traditional art. We have an outstanding roster of professional artists who provide instruction for students -- from beginners to the most advanced. Art classes at Fruitlands are rooted in the museum’s exemplary collection of Hudson River School landscape paintings, early American portraits, traditional art such as cabinetmaking and crafts such as weaving, beading, and more. Many classes also take inspiration from the museum’s breathtaking landscape. Oils, watercolors, baskets, pastels, nature journals, ceramics, photography, Shaker weaving and more can be found in our seasonal calendar of classes.
Plein Air Painting Program
In addition to our classes and workshops, we also offer a Plein Air Painting Program for artists who simply want to come to the site to spend a day painting, drawing, or making field studies. Simply let the Museum Store know you’re at Fruitlands to make art and they will issue a punch card recording your payment of the grounds fee ($6.00). After four visits, the fifth visit is free!
Sketching in the Galleries
We also welcome artists who want to sketch in our galleries. We ask that you pay admission to sketch inside. Some restrictions apply to drawing in the galleries. Please inquire with the Education Department for more information.
